The Department of Transport’s (DOT) $47 million bus depot will begin its construction in AED175 Million World Class Bus Terminal In Abu Dhabi To Commence In 2015the capital city soon and is expected to operate by 2015.
Located in Khalifa City opposite to Abu Dhabi Golf Club and adjacent to the northern Abu Dhabi-Dubai main road, the 10 hectares new bus terminal can accommodate 550 buses.
The project is a part of the AED 1.5 billion infrastructure development plan and was approved for execution by the Executive Council.
DOT said that this bus depot will redefine the bus service sector in Abu Dhabi as it will provide a wide spectrum of benefits to both existing and future bus fleets.  It will be a one-stop shop for bus maintenance and servicing facility that will be built as per world-class standards and environment-friendly benchmarks.
“The approval by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council to build a world-class bus depot bears witness to the rapidly-growing demand for bus services as being a sustainable, safe, cost-effective and almost around-the-clock available transportation option” Hashim Al Hashimi, Director of the Public Transport Division of DOT said.
The facility will be designed in future capacity to lodge additional buses, and will observe health, safety and environment standards,  easy to reach all Abu Dhabi areas, as well as its location far from the city or outside residential areas.
